The MLTF (The Military Law Task Force of the National Lawyers Guild) has been very busy this fall, including:1. Providing CLE training on topics including counter military racism, discharge upgrades, and GI resistance

2. Creating new materials, including a resources guide regarding the Israel/Hamas war, and an updated memorandum on the right of protest and dissent in the military.

3. Our executive director, Kathleen Gilberd provides triage-level information and referrals to appropriate resources for servicemembers, veterans and their famlies who call our hotline or email us.

4. Continuing our work to monitor and respond to important ongoing issues including gender discrimination (and rampant sexual harassment and assaults in the military), recruiter abuse, and the deployment of US troops to places ranging from the US-Mexico border, to Africa, the Middle East, and other locations.

All of this work depends on your financial support to keep us moving forward.

Today is “Giving Tuesday,” so please consider giving to the MLTF.

Here’s how you can do that:

1. Via Gofundme – https://gofund.me/6b8465af
2. By check – Mailed to Military Law Task Force, 730 N First St, San Jose CA 95112

3. Through the Guild Foundation – If you need to make the donation through a 501c3 for tax purposes, you can do so at: https://www.nlg.org/donate-mltf/, but as always talk to your tax professional first before making a decision that alters your tax situation.

4. Giving through your IRA – If you are 70½ or older, you can make tax-free charitable gifts of up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to eligible charities. The NLG Foundation is an eligible charity and can accept gifts for the benefit of the MLTF. For more information on how to do this, please visit: https://www.nlg.org/nlgf/qcd/, but please be sure to contact the Guild Foundation at  nlgfoundation@nlg.org to let them know the donation is coming and that it should be directed to the MLTF. And, as always, you should talk with your financial representative or tax adviser before making a decision that alters your tax situation. In solidarity,
James
